Here are the learnings from Zazzle and Trilogy

Bobby and Jeff Beaver on Zazzle: listen here

  • Small team can accomplish a lot, you don’t need 50 people and 100m dollars to create world class products anymore
  • Have confidence in yourself, your intuition, and your abilities
  • Don’t be intimidated by what we don’t know
  • Question everything don’t accept status quo
  • Adapt or Die : Make best use of opportunities that come along the way
  • Propagate the passion and vision to the whole team

Joe Liemandt on Trilogy: listen here

  • Your team members should fully understand the customer and their products, How can each of you create value for them? It is not about building great products, It is not building the finest piece of C++ code but delivering great value.
  • Ask your customers to pay only if they get value (unlike google’s pay per click)
  • Be a best friend to all the developers
  • Have great belief in yourself and be ready to persevere through tough times
